Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run

For those who are curious about the NEW ride at Disney, here you go. At this time, Star Wars Land has only ONE ride and WAS it worth the wait?

Hey Fans, this week has been a bit crazy. Between the opening of Galaxy’s Edge and Dorian…life at Disney has been a bit of a roller coaster. The opening week of Star Wars Land wasn’t as crowded as expected and many were able to explore the land in peace, thanks Dorian. I am a bit jelly over this. Of course the big draw to this NEW land was the Millennium Falcon ride and as someone who has ridden it 5X so far, here is what I have to say about Millennium Falcon, Smugglers Run.

Millennium Falcon!!
The Wait:

So I think the biggest worry for this ride, this experience, is the wait and is the wait, as in the line, worth it. Basically how long would you wait for this ride? Many, many people have waited hours and hours before for a ride. This is just not something I understand. Perhaps its because I have kids or have other things to experience, but not sure I could or would wait longer than about 60+ mins for any ride (especially with kids, as a mom). As far as the Falcon goes and with it being NEW…I was willing to wait about 1.5 hours. Luckily I didn’t have too, the most we waited was 60 mins and that was per the kids. They decided after riding it at Rope Drop that 45-60 mins was the most they would wait for this attraction. And I think that’s a good number, especially considering the bathrooms aren’t easy to come by.

The queue:

So to touch on my last point, bathrooms…I want it noted that once you enter the building, the front main entrance to the ride…you are kinda locked in. We didn’t see a cast member again until we were ready to see Hondo (READ On). So if anyone has to use the bathroom, you are stuck; no one to tell, no where to go and really no place to exit. And if you do exit, how will you get back into the line. GO TO THE BATHROOM FIRST, lol!! So the line goes back and forth, in and out of the ride queue, there isn’t much to see when outside, other than the backside of the falcon, which is very cool. But you are weaving in and out until you get inside. Once inside you enter a hanger like area with random droid parts, a staged table of sabacc, pilot lockers, etc. Its on theme and fun to look at. You go back and forth inside this area for a while, climbing higher and higher until you reach another doorway.

Once in this doorway, you are again seeing the backside of the Falcon, but higher up. Being able to see the Falcon so close is amazing. The details and colors will blow your mind. I once had to paint a decent sized model of the Falcon and I remember painting all those areas, those colors, those aged and distressed markings. AMAZING!! After this doorway, you are close. Soon you will finally see a Cast Member at another entrance, this is when you get filed into a room to meet Hondo. He welcomes you, explains the situation, you see Chewie and get a lowdown of the mission. Then you are filtered into another hallway before given your positions. Pilot, Gunner or Engineer. SEE VIDEO…

The Falcon:

Once you have your job and color card, you wait in the center of the Falcon, the same area where Chewie was playing his Cyber Chess Game, Same area where Luke got his first Jedi Training Lessons. Get your camera out fast for a quick pic as soon you will be flying the Falcon. Make sure to look for Luke’s Training helmet and get a pic around the “Chess” table. Position rundowns: Pilots “fly” the Falcon complete with Light Speed and trying NOT to crash. The Gunners shot everything and anything. And the Engineers fix the systems by pressing the right buttons at the right time. All 3 jobs work together to complete a favorable outcome; not to die and to collect as many bottles of coaxium as you can.

The Ride:

Once your RIDE COLOR is called, you are off. You quickly get in your seats, buckle up and you are off. Lights are going off like crazy and depending on your job, you just react and push. After riding it 5Xs, I can say that what you do or don’t do DOES matter. The ride is different, shorter or longer depending on the skills of your team. I also found that flying with pilots who crash less (aka NOT my kids), the ride was more smooth, lol. As a Gunner I was pressing buttons like crazy and as Pilots, my kids crashed often and even didn’t push the lever to Light Speed quick enough…this all mattered. In the end, we still made it make safe and got at least 1-2 containers of coaxium, which was Hondo’s goal. Being in the Falcon and flying to Lightspeed was amazing!! It was a Family HIT!

The Skinny:

Ride it, enjoy it. It’s the worth the wait. At least the 60 mins or less we rode it for. After doing it a few times, we might have waited less, but since its still so new…we weren’t being too picky. For motion…I found it was best to NOT be a pilot, to not look at the screen and just concentrate on my flashing buttons. I was very pleased that I didn’t get sick, but also knew that looking up and out would have changed that outcome. Its similar to Mission Space, but not as intense for the motion. Its almost like Star Tours was BEFORE the 3D glasses, but with buttons and levers to press. As far as the wait for the land itself, it was a FUN ride…but I am waiting to see what Rise of the Resistance is like. I do wish I was able to fly more or control more within the Falcon ride, but I get it; Disney needed to make it appropriate for littles too. After seeing my son have a hard time reaching the levers, I realized this.

How about you? What did you think? Have you ridden it yet?

What to Expect and HOW to Visit Galaxy’s Edge

So you’re headed to Disney but worried about Galaxy’s Edge? Wondering what to do or if you should skip it? READ this to learn the How to…

Hey fans, I was going to start writing about our recent adventure, but some NEW news just got leaked/released about the upcoming opening of Galaxy’s Edge, WDW. So I thought I would share that, for the moment. I have many families headed to WDW in a few days, weeks, months and the #1 concern is Galaxy’s Edge. Wondering if you should get up early, skip it entirely, will there be fastpasses? Let me see if I can ease some tension – How to do Galaxy’s Edge:

Fastpasses:

There will be NO fastpasses for any or ALL rides within Galaxy’s Edge. So you can stop asking this question, you can stop waiting for it to happen. BUT…keep reading as you will learn what they ARE doing to help with the crowds, just stop using or expecting the word fastpass to be used or included.

Reservations:

Reservations are available to make for ALL of the NON-ride experiences. So…if you plan on building a droid or a Lightsaber…get a reservation. If you plan on drinking in the Cantina, get a reservation. NOTE: The Cantina is a BAR, not a restaurant. They have like 2 “snack” items on the menu, but they aren’t the type of “snacks” you would be hoping for at a bar. So eat before or after you partake in enjoying a beverage. Also NOTE: The Cliff Dweller was yummy! NOW, making these reservations MEANS you are doing said activity and paying for them, so no last minute cancels or no-shows…they WILL charge you. Also…this may be a sure fire way to get into the land itself.

Cliff Dweller and a Beer!
Arrive Early:

So…as many of you, my clients, are families. I am talking to the families, the moms & dads when I say this. Hollywood Studios is opening up at 6am for RESORT guests for the next several weeks. For 99% of you, this is already TOO early for the kids. So no amount of getting there early will be early enough, if you catch my drift. Arriving at 6am just might be too late, so be prepared for that. There are crazy fans, young adults, people without kids that will be “camping out”. Some resorts are even arranging schedules so they can start serving breakfast as early as 2:30am. So…as much as I urge you to do the 6am walk of sleepy eyes, just note that the line might already be LONG. And I say this as the worst case, it might not be that bad for your trip…but prepare for it. We won’t know anything more concrete until it opens and we see the crowd levels.

NEW UPDATE:

It was recently leaked that WDW will have a Boarding Group System. This is GREAT news for those worried about LONG lines. Kids and long lines is not a good thing. Even a 60 min ride line left my kids squirming for the bathroom. So this boarding system is the same process that was created at Disneyland. SEE my images. You basically will log-in into your account, your My Disney Experience app on your phone and see if there is a required boarding group.

If yes, you join a group, through the app, on your phone. If a group is not required (meaning crowds are low) you can enter Galaxy’s Edge, through the door nearest to Muppets 3D Vision. So…as you enter Hollywood Studios, keep an eye on your app, your phone. If you end up needing a boarding group, the app will alert you when its time, so feel free to eat, ride and explore the park while waiting. You will have 2 hours to enter Galaxy’s Edge once your boarding group time is up. And the group is ONLY to enter the land itself, you still have to wait in line for any rides.

We LOVED Galaxy’s Edge and can’t wait to go back. Hope this helps!

Disneys Yacht Club Resort: Hotel REVIEW

Thinking about Disney World? Hoping to see Galaxy Edge? READ about this resort…Yacht Club.

Hey guys, getting lots of calls/emails/messages about the NEW Star Wars Land, Galaxys Edge. I, for sure, have lots of advice and tips but one is this resort. NOT only is it a FAVORITE of mine, but it would be the BEST place to stay if Star Wars is #1 on your list. Disney World Yacht Club:

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort
The Resort:

Disney’s Yacht Club is a Deluxe resort located between both Epcot and Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World. It has a sister resort, for which its connected too – Disney’s Beach Club. So this means double the eats, double the shops and double the magic. You can pop in and out of each resort just as easy as it is to walk across the street. The rooms are usually 2 queens with a sofa bed (in some rooms). The views are great, even the basic Garden View can be breathtaking. And I have watched many firework shows from the resort.

The Pool:

So the #1 reason why I LOVE this resort is the main pool, Stormalong Bay. It’s nestled between the two resorts and features a LAZY RIVER. Thats right, you heard me. I could float and spin and coast on this river ALL DAY LONG. And if that wasn’t fun enough, another pool area has a sandy bottom beach. Yep, in the actual pool. I am talking sand castle building sand. Add a few slides, a few hot tubs and LOTS of chairs with umbrellas and you have the making for the BEST pool on Disney World Property.

The Boardwalk:

Both Resorts are located on a Boardwalk (not the same as the Boardwalk Resort). Disney’s Boardwalk is what you think, its a walking path that leads to entertainment of various sorts. It also connects the 2 resorts to Disney’s Boardwalk Resort. But the Boardwalk itself is filled with shops, restaurants, bars, evening entertainment and shows. You just never know what you will find on the Boardwalk. Its makes for a nice family stroll, not to mention great views.

Location, Location, Location:

As mentioned above and in the Video, I love this resort for 2 main reasons; the pool and the location. You just can’t beat the ability to WALK to 2 of the 4 Disney Parks. Walking might sound like a pain, but it beats waiting for a bus, for transportation, EVERY single time, IMO. I have even timed it, it can be faster than the boats too. Grab a coffee and walk to the parks.

Star Wars Land – Galaxy’s Edge:

So…why is this resort PERFECT for Star Wars Fans, its location. That’s right, while everyone else is stuck in traffic or trying to jump in a crowded bus…you can walk. You can walk and park hop and enjoy yourself. This is what my family is doing once Star Wars Land opens this fall and I can’t be more excited. And clearly I am not the only one planning this as Yacht Club is very much booked for many, many dates.
