Snacks with Character – Vegan & Food Allergies

Headed to the parks with Food Allergies or Vegan? Visiting Disneyland or Disney World and worried about snacks? Read ON about Snacks with Character.

Hey Guys, as I finish editing ALL of my Disneyland VLOGS I am remembering a few things I discovered OR REdiscovered at BOTH Disney Theme Parks. Snacks with Character, perfect for vegans and those with Food Allergies. Anyone know what I am talking about? These treats were once available and then mysteriously disappeared. Many speculated as to why, but I am HAPPY to announce they are back – Both at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

Snacks with Character:

These are pre-packaged snacks that are sold in the Parks/Resorts. They are designed for people with Food Allergies or have dietary restrictions. So when the rest of park goers are eating cute cupcakes with Mouse Ears…we get Snacks with Character. As they aren’t the same as a Cupcake, it is nice to have an option. And to have a package with characters on it, kids don’t feel so left out.

Enjoy Life Chocolate Bars
Food Labeling with the Enjoy Life Logo
Enjoy Life:

If you have Food Allergies, you know this company. You have heard of them before and most are able to enjoy. They are usually free of the Top 8 Allergens, almost always Vegan (+/- Honey) and are the main brand behind Snacks with Character. I LOVE this. Even though I can purchase Enjoy Life at home (and safe a few $$), I don’t always want to pack EVERY snack ever when on vacation. PLUS being able to give your kids a SAFE chocolate Bar or FUN snack is HUGE. And if you are on the Meal Plan at WDW, this is a great way to use those credits. Enjoy while in the parks and grab a few more for the ride home.

Options:

I am sure I missed a few varieties and I am sure some come and go…but in general you can enjoy most of Enjoy Life’s products, Disney Style. My favorite are the Chocolate bars. I have a major sweet tooth and sometimes after eating a hearty meal…I WANT chocolate. These bars fit that craving, especially the RICE Crunch, yum!! They also have cookies, morning like grain/seed bars, Trail mix and healthy protein bites (little balls of heaven). Snacks with Character also have other varieties; cookies, chips, pretzels and such. Not all are Enjoy Life brand, but all are labeled per allergies. I found a few Gluten Free options as well.

So if you are headed to the parks with an Allergy or Dietary Need, make sure to look out for Snacks with Character. They can be found in the snack section of most stores/resorts and are also located in the Candy area in Ice Cream/ Dessert restaurants.

Disney Cruise Line – Drinking and Mixology Classes

Headed on a Disney Cruise? Want to enjoy some Adult Drinking? Thinking about Mixology Classes?  READ…

Hey Guys, back talking about Disney Cruise Line again today…answering a common question or Goal (if you will) – Drinking on a Disney Cruise.  When on Vacation, many think of 2 things: Relaxing and Enjoying an Adult Beverage.  So why not take a Mixology Class?

After I book a cruise for a client and towards the “planning” phase, beyond the date and stateroom selection…people start asking about Excursions, Adult-Only Meals (see post on Palo) and Classes (yep classes)…more specifically Mixology Classes.  Mixology Classes are so popular, some groups even arrange their own.

Mixology Class?

What is a Mixology Class you ask??  Well it is what it sounds like, you are taking a class where you LEARN how to MIX.  Mix what?  Well Mix ADULT beverages, AKA Alcohol, you silly 😉

Ariel’s READY!!

You can sign up ahead of time (Online) or if availability…on the ship.  Of course if you wait until on the ship, like I did, you need to do it ASAP.  Its $25 per person (or that’s what I paid).  You select a time/date for your class and meet at one of the local watering-holes on the ship.  Our class was in a tiny, quaint little bar called the Skyliner.  Our “teacher” was a bartender on the ship.  I forget how long but he has been teaching this class, on the Dream, for several years and really knew his stuff.

What do you do?

The concept is simple…you learn how to mix your own drinks.  Drinks you can then make at home; host parties, take to the pool, share with friends.  But when on the ship, you are making drinks you can then DRINK.  That’s right, this class is known for getting people a little tipsy…especially if you are a light weight and/or chug these cocktails.  Same with the Wine Tasting Classes or Hard Liqueur Tastings.  So for $25 you get 5 (decent sized) drinks PLUS learn whats in them and the process.  For our class we made 2 ourselves, then the last 3 were per volunteers.  And per our “teacher”, it gets more difficult to have everyone make own after 2 cocktails, lol.

NOTE – I was upfront with my allergies and a few drinks were adjusted per my needs.  They were very accommodating and thoughtful…as everyone else got the volunteer made drinks, I got 2 very special drinks made by the teacher himself 🙂

Also NOTE – If you want a FULL recipe or ingredients list…you better be prepared to video this or type in your phone…as recipe cards are NOT passed out (which would have made this SO much better).

I give this class a thumbs up, especially if cruising solo (Adult Only) or with older kids (teens+).  I can’t imagine people drinking this much in the afternoon and still managing to parents small children, lol.  At least I couldn’t.  I would need a nap, lots of water and some serious junk food.

Woody’s Lunch Box – NEW Disney Dining REVIEW

Headed to Hollywood Studios?  Check out Woody’s Lunch Box, a Quick Service Dining Location at Disney World.

Hey FANS, today we will dig a little deeper into Toy Story Land and look into this NEW Dining Location in the area – Woody’s Lunch Box.  First this location is a QUICK Service location, meaning NO waitress and it means you NEED to find your own seat.  Seating is OUTDOORS and during peak times – it can be hard to find a seat.  Perhaps send one person scouting for a table, while the other orders.  SCORE if you get one in the shade.

See the Top – its a LUNCH BOX, an old school Metal Lunch Box. The side is the Thermos.

Atmosphere:

This location might be the CUTEST place I have ever eaten at.  Think the INSIDE of a kids (Andy’s) Lunch Box (old-School) with a thermos, animal crackers, juice box, etc.  This entire area is themed like that.

Food:

The Menu is basically kids lunch food, items you might send to school, items you might find in a kids cafeteria (just short of pizza/mac & cheese); Sandwiches with tots and punch.  With the BIG HIT being TOTCHOS (this is what my friend ordered and she enjoyed it).  Who doesn’t love TOTS and NACHOS!!

Quick Service Dining Menu…

My FOOD:

Disclaimer – I am vegan with LOTS of Food Allergies, so I am limited to what I can eat, but thrilled to have options.  I, do however, always travel with those that can order directly off the menu, so I am fully aware of the general items as well and if they were tasty or not (I keep notes).  For my most recent visit – I ordered BOTH items a Vegan can have.  Vegan Totchos and a Vegan (dairy-free) Grilled Cheese.  I took one for the team and ordered TOO much food.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

  • Vegan Totchos:  They came with TOTS, vegan chili (bean base), Frito’s (corn chips), dairy-free cheese shreds and green onions on top.  I am NOT a huge fake Cheese fan so next time I will ask for just a sprinkle (as they didn’t melt), but I found this option to be yummy and I 100% would order again.  My oldest kid would also enjoy this meal.
  • Vegan Grilled Cheese: I got a Vegan (dairy-free) Grilled Cheese, a mini cup of tots and a Cutie orange.  I couldn’t eat the other options so I was limited, but I love tots…just had LOTS of TOTS this day, lol.  Sadly I did not like this item, like at all.  I felt it lacked flavor for starters and why oh why do people think fake cheese needs to be mounted up.  Melted cheese was dripping and spilling out everywhere, it was extremely messy and hard to eat.  I was disappointed in this option and so glad the kids weren’t with me as they would have HATED this sandwich.  I was hoping this would be more than just bread and cheese, for the price I would have loved some flavor.  At home, I make mine with mustard and pickles, even dipping it in ketchup wasn’t enough, lol.  And please oh please…if you order this, ask for less cheese.
  • Food Allergy wise:  I found the staff very easy to talk too, they called a chef immediately (even though I knew what I could have).  The Chef/Manager cooked it themselves (I could watch them do it) after discussing the menu with me.  It did take several mins to get (but I will happily wait for SAFE food).  In fact while I was waiting, 3 other families asked for a chef behind me…seeking safe food.  The lady next to me was GF and also ordered the Grilled Cheese (Dairy version).  My meals came out with the Allergy Stick and I confirmed again that it was Dairy-Free, no cheese, no butter.

Everyone around me appeared to enjoy their food.  Lots of happy people eating.  This is a POPULAR place, so be prepared to wait in line and wait for a table.  We ended up sharing our table with an English couple seeking shelter from the sun, they also enjoyed their meal.  I was hungry and left full.  But most of all, I enjoyed looking around and seeing all the little details of this location.  Another BRAVO DISNEY!  Next time Disney, I’d suggest an actual shelter (perhaps an old Pizza Cardboard box or Cereal Box) from the sun and perhaps more tables.  I would also LOVE more options to eat (but I say this about every location; vegan soup, vegan dessert, flavorful sandwich, Vegan nuggets, etc).

I hope this helped anyone deciding to dine at Woody’s Lunch Box, its kinda a must when in the area, they have breakfast too.  And if you have Food Allergies, they were a popular place to dine and seemed able to accommodate all the allergies in line.  Mahalo for Reading and Following along – Nina
