Disney’s NEW Toy Story Land REVIEW

Love Toy Story?  Wanna FEEL like a toy and meet Woody and the Gang?  How about a NEW Coaster?  Take a Look…

Hi again, today I thought we would switch gears for a few and talk Walt Disney World.  But don’t worry – plenty of Cruise info to come!  As many of you probably know, Disney opened up a NEW land last summer at Disney’s Hollywood Studios – Toy Story Land!  It’s a stink’in cute area, jam packed with toys, colors, characters and 2 NEW rides.

What a FUN way to welcome you!!

Look and Feel:

I recently revisited this area and I just love all the action and best part, you are not a kid in TSL (Toy Story Land) – you are a TOY!!  Everything is scaled to make you feel like a toy, like you too have “Andy” on the bottom of your shoe.  Giant Pixar Ball, Giant Box of Crayons, Building Blocks, Army Men, Links, Cooties, Dice, Jenga, Wooden Letters, and lots more.

The more you look, the more you see.  Even look at the road (ground) you are walking on…see anything?  The whole area is decorated like Andy’s fort of toys, spilling out to play with, trip on and enjoy…like a child would.  Christmas Lights are strung around the land, which is an excellent touch, as you can image the toys coming alive at night and using the lights to travel across the land.

Toys at play…

NEW Rides and Dining Location:

Toy Story Land has 3 rides; 2 of which are NEW and 1 Dining Location.  The 2 new rides are very well themed.  Slinky Dog Dash is a coaster (see the videos) and Aliens Swirling Saucers is just like Disneyland’s Mater’s Junk Yard Jamboree (which my kids LOVE).  Its a rotating, swirling ride where your “Alien Ship” kinda dances around the track while it spins as you turn a corner.  The third is the ever so popular Toy Story Mania.  All 3 can be fastpassed (only 1 at a time), but Slinky Dog is clearly the crowd favorite at the moment (hello its a NEW coaster).

AND incase that wasn’t enough…you can meet all sorts of characters which you will find, both walking around and meeting guests (or other toys) in their meeting locations.  So Buzz, Jessie, Woody and NEW is Bo Peep.  I witnessed a group of kids interacting with Buzz pressing all his buttons and adjusting his “modes” – Spanish mode was my favorite πŸ˜‰  And don’t forget to look at the restroom – super cute.  It reminds me of the theming around Disneyland’s It’s A Bugs Land – the bathroom was so well fitting for the area, it blended right it.  At TSL, even the “girls” or “boys” signs fits in with the land.  Bravo Disney!  I love walking around TSL and looking and finding new things I didn’t see before.  AND I love being a TOY!

I am looking forward to returning to TSL this winter as my family tackles Galaxy’s Edge, I know we will need our Toy Story fix, especially as Toy Story 4 is about ready to premiere.  I saw a lengthy preview and I liked what I saw.  “Forky” is the NEW hit character, can’t wait.

Spa Time on a Disney Cruise: Rainforest Room

Looking to Book a Disney Cruise?  Needing some RELATION time?  Wondering how fast can you visit the SPA – Read this!

Hey Guys, today I am talking about the Rainforest Room – Wait, what??  What the heck is that?  Well its a part of the SPA area on a Disney Cruise Ship.  The SPA on the ships can do all sorts of things; nails, hair-dos, wedding make-overs, teeth whitening, COOL sculpting, massages, acupuncture, etc.  I even saw a Barber Shop with the complete Men’s Shaving treatment (going old-school).  But one of the areas is the Rainforest Room – A little quaint, tranquil, slice of heaven.  Again, its something I had seen and toured but never actually experienced – as I am usually too busy hanging out with the kids or joining a Trivia Game on the ship.

But for this ADULTS ONLY vacation I went on, Peace and Tranquil was the name of the game.  I purchased a SINGLE DAY pass online, ahead of time.  It was $18 for 1 FULL day of enjoying the Room.  I do believe it was a few $ more to get while on the ship, so paying for it in advance was the way to go AND if you are thinking – 1 day?  I want to go for my entire trip, then you can book that (but I think ONLY on the ship can you do that AND they usually have a deal going).

What can you do for 1 FULL day?  Well you can pop in and out of the various Saunas – both cool (cold actually) and various degrees of warm to hot.  You can sip Lemon infused water πŸ™‚  You can enjoy the Ladies or Mens Locker room for a larger shower space (if using your stateroom shower isn’t cutting it).  How about a dip or soak in the hot tubs OR you can lay and lounge in one of the warming tile chairs and relax, read, dream, think or even sleep.

Experience:

I rather enjoyed my time in the Rainforest Room!  I was disappointed that, at least on the Dream, the hot tubs were small (only 2-3 people) and they were often being used.  Not that I want to hot tub with lots of strangers, I guess I wanted more options…but we are talking a cruise ship and they only have so much space.  Now the VIEWS from the Hot Tub were breathtaking and I wish I had more time for the Rainforest Room, I wish we had a SEA DAY (we didn’t on this cruise) or perhaps were able to skip a dinner and just sit in the Hot Tub while enjoying the beautiful sea.  Next time, next time.  The longer cruises are for sure better for this, more time to relax, enjoy and just be.  The Tile Lounge Chairs, however, that’s where its at!!  Warm, toasty, relaxing – how can I get one for home??  Anyone??  My back needs that in our life πŸ˜‰

Warm Tile Lounges – Breathe and Relax!

Hot Tub with a View, imagine it at Sea.

Opinion:

In conclusion (to sound like my son who is learning how to write stories/paragraphs properly) I would book the Rainforest Room again, but only if I 100% knew I could enjoy it for longer than 1+ hours (like on a SEA DAY).  Between eating Breakfast, going to port, then eating Lunch, changing to finally relax in the Spa, then showering and getting ready for the show, then dinner, then night-time entertainment – It was hard to fully enjoy it as I think its meant to be.  Would be perfect for older couples, people with older kids who can entertain themselves and I did see several young adults enjoying the space.  OR if you have kids that will leave you alone for a good part of the day – SCORE and please take my kids too πŸ˜‰

**Do I sound like I am complaining, lol.  Only 1-2 hours in the Rainforest Room, poor me.  When I travel, I am also working…so its hard to stay in 1 space when I need to try to experience it all – so as I could have just ignored all my other duties and enjoyed the tranquil whisper of heaven…I had to get my booty of the Tile Chair, shower and go see the preview to Toy Story 4, then be ready for dinner.  Next time, I will forget my watch and Oops…sorry lost track of time, lol.

Hope this helped you decide if a little quiet time is worth getting – Mahalo for reading – Nina

Nassau TOUR and REVIEW

Thinking about Porting in Nassau.Β  What to do, what to see and where to go with Disney Cruise Line

Ok – so today we are gonna talk about Nassau (which is in the Bahamas).Β  This is a very common or popular ports of call for ALL Cruise Lines to dock at.Β  YES, I said DOCK – no tender here πŸ™‚Β  I have personally been to Nassau a few times as well as other Cruise Port locations (I am a vast wealth of knowledge, lol).Β  At first, our plan was to skip Nassau and stay aboard the ship (doing awesome ADULT-ONLY fun), but we decided what the heck, lets explore for an hour or so…so we did.

The Disney Dream!

IMPORTANT: Getting off the Ship

When you first get off the ship (WITH YOUR ID/PASSPORT and DCL CARD) you enter a “holding area” for lack of a better word.Β  Its a gated area, contained at the port…but its FILLED with local vendors calling out your name – “pretty lady, pretty lady – you need hair braids?”Β  They have drinks, snacks, Bahamas Merch (tees, bags, trinkets, etc) and the Hair Braiding ladies (PS – you can also get your Hair Braided on the Ship).Β  Walk fast or shop – totally your call.Β  And YES, you can barter here.

The Nassau Experience:

Then you can step outside of the gate and enter Nassau – this is where you can catch a cab/taxi or enter the city marketplace area.Β  SAFETY TIP – I wouldn’t venture too far into Nassau – either BOOK a Port Excursion with Disney, take a Cab to a beach or walk 1-2 blocks…that’s it.Β  On a Previous trip, I booked a DAY at the local Sandals Resort (another story).Β  Immediately entering this area, a friend got into a conversation with a local regarding “knock off” bags.Β  AS many people might say, “no thanks” – she was very interested.Β  So we found ourselves following this local lady into a few shops.Β  Shops that were dark, closed and could have easily been a human trafficking den…but it was early and they just hadn’t opened yet (but still, never keep your guard down).

Bags, upon bags, upon bags galore EVERYWHERE.Β  Knocks-offs from all brands and celebs.Β  Purses, wallets, hats, shoes, sunglasses, etc.Β  If this is your thing – I got their card πŸ˜‰Β  ALSO it turns out this lady…she is like a shopper for the various shops (I think earning commission from the store fronts for bring you into store and purchasing).Β  She was very nice, friendly and a smooth talker…hard to say no (so again be firm if not interested).Β  After we left (yes people did purchase) we found others doing the same thing (other “shopper” ladies with signs showing pictures of purses).

Visiting the Local Marketplace:

AS other members of our group left to do other things, we stayed course and walked our few blocks, shopping in the market place before heading back to the ship…as we had pre-purchased the SPA day (the Rainforest Room).Β  Lots of shops, many were US brand locations too like Starbucks, Subway, Hard Rock, etc.Β  But we were interested in souvenirs for the kids we left at home.Β  See pictures BELOW:

After we scored a few deals, we left…heading back to the ship – but NOT before we got our passports stamped.Β  Yep – FREE souvenir…get your passport stamped at Nassau!

Proof you have been to the Bahamas!

**NOTE – Nassau is one of those ports that many have been too SO MANY times that they might decide to stay on-board the ship.Β  I was curious to see HOW many people actually were left of on the ship.Β  More on this subject later, but I was pleasantly surprised at the “openness” of the pool/spa areas – perhaps more people explored Nassau as we did.
