Disney Cruise Line – After Dark

Wondering what to do on a Cruise when its Night Time, any evening activities?  READ to find out.

Hey guys, today I wanted to talk about a Disney Cruise in the evening, you know after dinner, but before bed 😉  So you had your dinner, you saw the evening entertainment show…now what?  Drinking at the bar, evening cocktails in a lounge with soft LIVE music, Adult Trivia or Game Shows…or my NEW favorite (Silent DJ Party).

For those with kids, young kids…you might just be heading to bed, having a cocktail on your balcony while the kids sleep or you might be passed out from all the sun, fun and entertainment during the day.  BUT for those with older kids or those cruising without kids…there is a whole mess of fun in the evening that I only recently got to enjoy as I left the kiddies at home.  OR you could cruise with another family and have ladies night and guys night, swapping off with each other.

Games and Trivia:

So for those who can manage it…there is usually a game or two going on in the evening.  Think 80’s trivia or a Match Your Mate game.  Perhaps Dream Quest is more your speed?  The “Quest” game is like a scavenger hunt using items currently ON the people in the Game Room – like a key or a coin, etc.  This can be quite funny, but depending on the items they ask for…a little crazy for some.

LIVE Lounge/DJ:

This is what it sounds like…the Crew Staff DJ will often go from bar, to lounge to pub and play music.  The Ship’s LIVE band will do the same.  Think soft singing, gentle music and often times an impressive instrument solo.  Its a peaceful way to end the evening with a glass of wine and soft chatting with your partner.  On the Dream we also heard a wonderful pianist.

Silent DJ Party:

This FUN event was amazingly entertaining, for both the participants and the viewers.  It involves participants wearing headphones and listening to music while dancing.  ONLY they can hear what is playing, but YOU, as the viewer can hear them “lip sing” and watch them dance.  Partners can be listening to 2 different songs, while singing (usually out loud) and trying to also dance with each other.  One could be Latin Dance tunes and the other could be Country.  Its hysterical to watch and fun to participate in.  Many times I thought to myself…I want what he is having as some cruisers were really having a good time.  Don’t miss this activity.  I noticed many young adults doing this as well.

Movies:

And for those who want something a little less dance party and perhaps more (the kids are awake)…there are late night movies playing as well.  Usually one movie is playing in the theater and one is playing on the pool deck (grab a sweater).  Both are a great way to end the night if the kids aren’t tired and you still want some Disney fun.

Enjoy the VIEW:

My personal way to end the night is to WALK the top decks of the ship.  Feel the soft breeze of the night on your face, enjoy a cocktail and stroll.  Watch the waves as they crash against the ship under the moon light.  Witness the calm of the ship in its nighttime spender.  The lights of the pool area are beautiful in the dark night.  So peaceful and elegant.  I could sit and enjoy that for hours.

So as most people think about what they can do during the day and rushing to this activity to the next…sometimes its nice to enjoy the night with some soft music, a Disney Movie or a the night sky glowing on the ship.  Either way, its just the beginning of another beautiful day…so enjoy the night and plan for the next day ahead!

Disney Cruise Line – Adult Drinking Experience

When on Vacation, many think of 2 things: Relaxing and Enjoying an Adult Beverage

Hey Guys, back talking about Disney Cruise Line again today…answering a common question or Goal (if you will) – Drinking on a Disney Cruise.

After I book a cruise for a client and towards the “planning” phase, beyond the date and stateroom selection…people start asking about Excursions, Adult-Only Meals (see post on Palo) and Classes (yep classes)…more specifically Mixology Classes.  Mixology Classes are so popular, some groups even arrange their own.

What is a Mixology Class you ask??  Well it is what it sounds like, you are taking a class where you LEARN how to MIX.  Mix what?  Well Mix ADULT beverages, AKA Alcohol, you silly 😉

Ariel’s READY!!

You can sign up ahead of time (Online) or if availability…on the ship.  Of course if you wait until on the ship, like I did, you need to do it ASAP.  Its $25 per person (or that’s what I paid).  You select a time/date for your class and meet at one of the local watering-holes on the ship.  Our class was in a tiny, quaint little bar called the Skyliner.  Our “teacher” was a bartender on the ship.  I forget how long but he has been teaching this class, on the Dream, for several years and really knew his stuff.

The concept is simple…you learn how to mix your own drinks.  Drinks you can then make at home; host parties, take to the pool, share with friends.  But when on the ship, you are making drinks you can then DRINK.  That’s right, this class is known for getting people a little tipsy…especially if you are a light weight and/or chug these cocktails.  Same with the Wine Tasting Classes or Hard Liqueur Tastings.  So for $25 you get 5 (decent sized) drinks PLUS learn whats in them and the process.  For our class we made 2 ourselves, then the last 3 were per volunteers.  And per our “teacher”, it gets more difficult to have everyone make own after 2 cocktails, lol.

NOTE – I was upfront with my allergies and a few drinks were adjusted per my needs.  They were very accommodating and thoughtful…as everyone else got the volunteer made drinks, I got 2 very special drinks made by the teacher himself 🙂

Also NOTE – If you want a FULL recipe or ingredients list…you better be prepared to video this or type in your phone…as recipe cards are NOT passed out (which would have made this SO much better).

I give this class a thumbs up, especially if cruising solo (Adult Only) or with older kids (teens+).  I can’t imagine people drinking this much in the afternoon and still managing to parents small children, lol.  At least I couldn’t.  I would need a nap, lots of water and some serious junk food.

Spa Time on a Disney Cruise: Rainforest Room

Looking to Book a Disney Cruise?  Needing some RELATION time?  Wondering how fast can you visit the SPA – Read this!

Hey Guys, today I am talking about the Rainforest Room – Wait, what??  What the heck is that?  Well its a part of the SPA area on a Disney Cruise Ship.  The SPA on the ships can do all sorts of things; nails, hair-dos, wedding make-overs, teeth whitening, COOL sculpting, massages, acupuncture, etc.  I even saw a Barber Shop with the complete Men’s Shaving treatment (going old-school).  But one of the areas is the Rainforest Room – A little quaint, tranquil, slice of heaven.  Again, its something I had seen and toured but never actually experienced – as I am usually too busy hanging out with the kids or joining a Trivia Game on the ship.

But for this ADULTS ONLY vacation I went on, Peace and Tranquil was the name of the game.  I purchased a SINGLE DAY pass online, ahead of time.  It was $18 for 1 FULL day of enjoying the Room.  I do believe it was a few $ more to get while on the ship, so paying for it in advance was the way to go AND if you are thinking – 1 day?  I want to go for my entire trip, then you can book that (but I think ONLY on the ship can you do that AND they usually have a deal going).

What can you do for 1 FULL day?  Well you can pop in and out of the various Saunas – both cool (cold actually) and various degrees of warm to hot.  You can sip Lemon infused water 🙂  You can enjoy the Ladies or Mens Locker room for a larger shower space (if using your stateroom shower isn’t cutting it).  How about a dip or soak in the hot tubs OR you can lay and lounge in one of the warming tile chairs and relax, read, dream, think or even sleep.

Experience:

I rather enjoyed my time in the Rainforest Room!  I was disappointed that, at least on the Dream, the hot tubs were small (only 2-3 people) and they were often being used.  Not that I want to hot tub with lots of strangers, I guess I wanted more options…but we are talking a cruise ship and they only have so much space.  Now the VIEWS from the Hot Tub were breathtaking and I wish I had more time for the Rainforest Room, I wish we had a SEA DAY (we didn’t on this cruise) or perhaps were able to skip a dinner and just sit in the Hot Tub while enjoying the beautiful sea.  Next time, next time.  The longer cruises are for sure better for this, more time to relax, enjoy and just be.  The Tile Lounge Chairs, however, that’s where its at!!  Warm, toasty, relaxing – how can I get one for home??  Anyone??  My back needs that in our life 😉

Warm Tile Lounges – Breathe and Relax!

Hot Tub with a View, imagine it at Sea.

Opinion:

In conclusion (to sound like my son who is learning how to write stories/paragraphs properly) I would book the Rainforest Room again, but only if I 100% knew I could enjoy it for longer than 1+ hours (like on a SEA DAY).  Between eating Breakfast, going to port, then eating Lunch, changing to finally relax in the Spa, then showering and getting ready for the show, then dinner, then night-time entertainment – It was hard to fully enjoy it as I think its meant to be.  Would be perfect for older couples, people with older kids who can entertain themselves and I did see several young adults enjoying the space.  OR if you have kids that will leave you alone for a good part of the day – SCORE and please take my kids too 😉

**Do I sound like I am complaining, lol.  Only 1-2 hours in the Rainforest Room, poor me.  When I travel, I am also working…so its hard to stay in 1 space when I need to try to experience it all – so as I could have just ignored all my other duties and enjoyed the tranquil whisper of heaven…I had to get my booty of the Tile Chair, shower and go see the preview to Toy Story 4, then be ready for dinner.  Next time, I will forget my watch and Oops…sorry lost track of time, lol.

Hope this helped you decide if a little quiet time is worth getting – Mahalo for reading – Nina
