I just arrived to Disney, now what??

So you are headed to Disney, you just got off the bus and NOW?? What to do next? READ ON and see what I do once I arrive.

Hey Fans, I get this question alot too. Many who are new to Disney are often worried they might forget something, miss something or do it wrong. These are things I help with and coach my peeps on. But one question I always get is…what should I do once I arrive? So Enjoy…

Check-IN:

So this is a no-brainer – once you arrive to your resort, you should check-in. But perhaps you didn’t realize that this is also a good time to ask questions. Ask questions about your room, your resort and perhaps what is happening in the parks while you are there. This is also the BEST time to make sure your Magicbands (Disney World) work, as in…are synced up and will open your resort room. Disney, sadly, frequents glitches in the system – so making sure your bands are all set can save lots of hassle and time in the parks.

MAPS:

I 100% always grab maps. You can ask for maps at check-in OR find them on display somewhere in your resort. You will want to grab several maps for each park. Pass them around to husbands/kids/etc. Pack a marker and a highlighter and circle/mark ALL your eats locations and fastpasses. This helps visualize your day. It also helps you figure out where you are going before you arrive – to prevent that “deer in headlights” experience. When at rope drop, the last thing you want to do is pull out a map. You will want to run, aka walk fast, to your destination and know if you need to turn left or right.

Time Guide:

While grabbing those maps or chatting with your check-in Cast Member, make sure to grab a Times Guide. This is the CURRENT and most updated list of ALL timed activities. Think parades, special shows, entertainment and park hours. Make sure to also grab your resort calendar in case you have time to hang at your resort and enjoy an activity.

Unpack:

Again, another NO-Brainer. But, I don’t just unpack, in fact I actually don’t unpack my clothes (I live out of my suitcase)…I just unpack my toiletries and my needed items for the following day. What I really like to do is get my park bags and everything I might need for the next day OUT and ready. This means I transition my airplane bag into my park bag. I make sure I have out the sunscreen, sunglasses, character books, etc. I get out all the snacks, breakfast items, etc. So the next morning is less stressful and more organized. Everything is out, packed and ready for park fun.

Resort Exploration:

And…I like to explore my resort (assuming its a NEW one). Walk the paths, get an idea of where to catch the bus, see where to grab a snack and visit the pools. I make sure I know where I need to go the following day. AND I always shop the Sundries shop and make sure we have everything we need for breakfast the next morning. Purchase juice, cereal, bars, etc. Grab bowls, spoons, napkins and such so morning can be as smooth as possible.

And if you haven’t noticed I am very Type A, beyond organized. I travel the same way. I make sure I am always set for the next day. Last thing I want to do is walk 10 mins within my resort to find a spoon or purchase juice when I could do it the night before and wake up to a smooth day. Crazy? Yes, I know. Its how I roll 🙂

Shoes? What SHOES should I wear to Disney?

So you heard that Disney is A LOT of walking and are wondering what shoes are best? Sneakers, Sandals, flip-flops – Oh My.

Hey guys, welcome back to another post BASED on a question I get at least a few times a month. What shoes should I wear to Disney? What shoes should my kids have? Do I need to purchase special shoes? All good questions right?!?! Have you been thinking the same thing? READ on for what shoes you should consider for Disney.

First I want to mention…what you wear and what you pack is a personal choice. Your feet, your fashion, your vacation. These are what work best for me, for my family…after years and years and several trips later. In the end, wear what your feet like, what works best for miles and miles of daily walking…on concrete, in the heat. Sounds appealing, right? PS – I love Disney 🙂

Kids:

I am gonna start with kids as I get this more than the adults. As adults we know what our feet like, generally…but our kids…who knows, lol. So for my kids I get them Stride Ride Waterproof Sneaker like shoes. They are technically sandals, but they have a sneaker tread on the bottom. Their toes are completely protected and there are ventilated cut-outs for breathing and water-flow. These are also their summer shoes. I like the sneaker tread for walking, toe coverage for safety and the vents for RAIN. Keens also work and are designed similarly.

The Men:

AS I am not a man and perhaps have a different style, I have noticed most wear what you would think to wear – Comfy sneakers. My husband wears hiking like shoes, but light-weight and designed to look more like sneakers. They hold up well for long days of walking. My only issue is RAIN. What if it rains?? IF you would wear them, I actually suggest shoes like my kids suggestion, if fact I think the entire family should wear Keen like shoes. As it rains often in Florida and no-one likes soggy shoes. But if going the sneaker route, get NICE socks; breathable socks and wear the shoes in a little. Water blisters are not fun.

Park Shoes!!
The Ladies:

Ladies are all over the map in the parks. Its hard to gauge as many could be locals who are only visiting for a few hours, so cute sandals with straps are OK. I personally need more support and coverage for a week long journey of intense walking, don’t you? If Keen like shoes aren’t an option…I use to wear Crocs a lot to the parks. But the cute kind, Mary-Jane style with a strap to keep them on and support while walking. Recently I have been wearing Vans or Chuck Taylors (but thats my style). I tend to NOT wear them when rain is on the menu, then I will wear my Chacos. Either way, I want cute, supportive and waterproof if I can.

Hopefully you found this helpful. Ideally think of comfort, long days, and potential rain. If socks are needed, think of those too. They make endurance socks, designed for sweat and walking. If purchasing NEW shoes, wear them in a little – to prevent blisters. Speaking of blisters, don’t forget to pack blister-aids or some other protection for your feet. Just remember to love your feet and think about the pain you might feel at the end of the day. And its ok to try to look cute too 😉

Favorite Vegan Disney World Snacks

Thinking about visiting Disney, but worried about the snacks? Vegan or have Food Allergies? Read this…

Hey fans, as I sit here and book magical trips for my clients (aka you) I drool fondly over my favorite Disney snacks. Snacks I wish I could get at home and snacks I wish you all could send back home to me. Being Vegan with Food Allergies I am limited…but not as limited as you would think. My Favorite Disney World Vegan Snacks:

#1: Mickey Pretzel:

Ok – so my hands down favorite is the plain and simple pretzel. 100% vegan and dairy-free, just add mustard (or at least I do). The fact that its shaped like Mickey just makes it so much tastier. We love eating his ears, then his eyes, etc. Its like a game and treat all in one. I like mine lightly salted, so I might wipe off a few salt rocks…but this is a snack I won’t leave a park without. AND its rumored that the sugar ones are vegan too 🙂

#2: Popcorn:

Yep and I am talking about the buttered (non-dairy) popcorn that they sell all over the parks. The fresh, made daily as you are walking by, popcorn. Get it in a fancy cute character bucket or in a toss away cardboard cup…its yum!! It’s great to share or enjoy solo…either way, nothing beats this popular snack. Perfect for the whole family to enjoy. You can also find, pre-packaged, flavored popcorn as well – check the candy, snack stores.

#3: Dole Whip:

So this one isn’t usually a HUGE shock, but ALL fruit flavors are Dairy-Free. Avoid the Vanilla. You can get pineapple, lemon, lime, strawberry, mango, etc…so many flavors…it just depends on the location and what the popular treat is at the moment. Lately they have been making them character themed with decorations. If these decorations are Chocolate based, just pass on the decor and get the Frozen yumminess as is. I have been truly impressed by the lemon and the lime. And I LOVE the mix, when they mix 2 flavors – YUM!!

Dole Whip!!
#4: Candied Almonds:

Sorry no-nut families, but I LOVE this snack. And they are vegan!! Always double check the ingredients…but I love these SO much I am known to get them every-time I see the stand, using several snack credits and keeping them in our bags. They usually last a few days, with us taking a few handfuls as desired. The nut carts aren’t everywhere, so you have to score when you can. We have seen Almonds, Cashews and Pecans…but the almonds have my heart.

#5: Erin McKenna Bakery:

So this place is located in Disney Springs and the ENTIRE place is Vegan and Gluten Free. Many of the items are to-die-for…but its the donuts that get me drooling. Another item I will purchase SEVERAL of and enjoy for several days during our vacation. I will even place an order for delivery. But the HUGE perk of this place is getting to pick your own cupcake or cookie, from the case. No waiting for a special one from the back, you can order just like everyone else – and thats the TRUE treat.

Erin McKenna DONUT!!
#6: Fruit/Veggies:

Just adding this as a side note – obviously these items are vegan, but noting as you can find fruit cups and veggie sticks in the parks. Toss the Ranch and you are good to go! Sometimes you can spot hummus or Sabra Pretzels/Hummus snack packs.

I would love to hear your list. I know there are other Vegan treats in the parks, but my faves are the ones I can get almost anywhere. Mahalo for READING and FOLLOWING along – Nina
