How to SAVE on a Disney Vacation

Wanting to Visit Disney, but trying to save a buck? Learn how to save on a Disney Vacation very easily.

Dear Nina, I was just watching your “How to Save at Disney” Video and was wondering…can I really use Disney Gift Cards to pay off my trip? How much can I save? Do you suggest it? Is this the best way to save on my Disney Vacation?

Hi Reader, thanks for contacting me. Yes, yes you can!! And I get this question alot. I have many clients who do this and have saved several hundred dollars when using Disney Gift Cards to pay off their ENTIRE Disney Vacation. On a $4000+ trip, I had a client save about $200 or so doing this recently.

The key to making this work, to actually SAVE a decent amount on these cards, is to purchase them at a Discount. The other key is to purchase MANY. You aren’t going to save much by doing this for a few hundred, to really save you need to do this for the entire trip cost, think thousands. Below are my additional thoughts on this:

HOW TO PURCHASE:

Many of my clients have done this, most purchasing them online, from an authorized vendor that offers discounts for every card purchased (careful there are SCAMMERS out there too). Others purchase at their local grocery store, Target, etc when Gift Cards are sold at a discount. I love the idea of grabbing a few cards every-time you are shopping, toss them in the cart and save weekly/monthly…assuming you are getting a discount on the cards. Either way, make sure they are OFFICIAL Disney Gift Cards.

SAVE THOSE CARDS:

So, you decided to do this and now have many, many cards hanging around. SAVE THEM ALL, don’t toss them away. If, for any reason, you get funds back, they will go back on those exact cards. So grab a Ziploc or box and save those babies until your trip is complete and memories were made.

POTENTIAL CONCERN:

So, this sounds amazing right?!?! Save a few hundred off your vacation, instantly…but with everything…there is a slight concern. My personal concern on this is, what if you need to cancel your trip due to a financial emergency? Like you totaled your car or lost your job or find yourself needing funds quickly, so you cancel your vacation to rebook at a later date. Issue is, you aren’t getting cash back, you are getting Disney Gift Card funds back. Can’t pay off your emergency bills with a Disney Gift Card. Just food for thought. I personally prefer saving with my Disney Visa Card, earning points for every dollar spent. I have saved BIG that way.

PRO- TIP:

Assuming you decide to do this trick and get thousands of dollars worth of Disney Gift Cards, my PRO TIP – make sure to consolidate them. To pay off your trip, using Gift Cards, you have to enter them EACH in, manually…refreshing the page every-time. So grouping them into larger amounts and thus, less cards is key. And better yet, book with a Travel Agent and let her use her magic to pay your trip off with those Gift Cards 😉

5 Reasons why I HATE Disney

Ever wonder why people visit Disney on Vacation? Why they save and save for just this one experience? 5 Reasons to hate Disney…

Hey Fans, I am always getting questions like, why Disney, why not other Theme Parks? What makes Disney so great? Is it worth the cost? So it got me thinking, why? What is the difference? Then I started to think like others, like not the Disney obsessed person that I am…so here are 5 reasons why I hate Disney (or hate to LOVE) and there are way more than 5.

Clean:

Sadly Disney Parks are just too clean. I just don’t understand it. When I go to a theme park, I like stepping in gum. I like having my shoes stick every time I walk and I love having sticky fingers after riding an attraction. What I love the most is sitting at a restaurant to eat and grabbing the table and feeling row after row of old gum stuck to the bottom of the table, my seat and sometimes…even a ride. I also enjoy sitting in someones spilled soda or getting ketchup stains on my pants from a previous guest. I am just not sure why Disney has to be so clean. Its almost like the park sparkles, its obnoxious.

Cast Members:

Cast Members are the worst, they are TOO darn helpful and friendly. I miss asking for help and having employees tell me to look at a map or point with ONE finger towards a vague direction. Or like other theme parks, act like I am interrupting their day, ruining a conversation with another employee. But the worst thing that Cast Members do is look happy and smile. Why oh why do they do that. When I arrive to the park, first thing in the morning, why are they wishing me hello or welcome. Why are they waving at me with giant mouse glove hands, don’t they know how ridiculous that is. Why aren’t they working, why are they taking time to wish me “Good Morning”? Never ask a Cast Member for help, for you might actually get the answer you were looking for. I much prefer getting a blank stare.

Garbage Cans:

Disney has WAY too many garbage cans. I feel like I am always bumping into them, always when I have food to throw out. Its like they want me to trash my trash. I miss the days when I can use my pockets as trash and find out later that the granola bar wrapper left a chocolate sticky mess inside my pant pocket. I enjoy tripping on other people’s garbage when walking around. Carrying around my kids half eaten dole whip while its dripping into my hands, down my arms is my favorite. Its just crazy to have so many garage cans AND they are themed to the land, so they aren’t ugly and ruining my pictures like I prefer. I enjoy a good selfie with trash in my shot.

Creative Displays Like NO-Other.
Atmosphere:

Disney has the worst ambiance ever. Its so cheerful. Did you know that each land has music that softly plays and it changes per the area that you are in? It’s SO annoying. I much prefer silence or the loud chatter of fellow park goers. I also don’t understand all the decorations. Every area is fitting to its theme and makes you feel like you are somewhere else. I prefer to be someplace with generic trees and buildings. And why is everything so colorful or animated? Why are the parks so festive during the Holidays? When I visit a theme park, all I care about are the rides, so they need not to be spending funds on areas that don’t matter. Did you know that certain areas even have a smell or a scent. Don’t get me started on the resorts and how they invoke a happy feeling by pumping a refreshing scent into the air.

Its Addicting:

Disney is worst for being addicting. I almost feel like people need a 12 step program after they visit. People always joke about drinking the “Disney Kool-aid” and now they are hooked. So people save and save for a Disney Vacation, then they go back home and do it ALL over again. For some reason they miss the happy, cheerful, magical nature that is Disney. Its like they enjoy themselves on a Disney Vacation? Perhaps some people like helpful Cast Members and a clean park? Not sure why, I much prefer getting ignored, tripping on empty food cartons and stepping in gum. And don’t get me started on Disney Entertainment, eek.

As you can tell I am SO not a Disney fan or am I? People usually don’t understand the draw and excitement of a Disney Vacation until they are on one. Its like no other vacation or theme park. Disney may be crowded, sometimes hot and often $$, but its always worth it. No one does Service like Disney. Down to the cleanliness of the parks, the thoughtful Cast Members and secretly additive juice they pump in the air – Disney is hands-down AMAZING.

Disney Discounts and Deals

So you wanna visit Disney, but you want to make sure you have the best price. Join the Club, lol. I think we ALL want to score a Disney Discount Deal.

Hey Fans, I think this is the MOST POPULAR question I get. How to get a Disney Deal? When can I get a Disney Discount. If I book NOW, can you get me a Deal later? If I book with you, can I still get a Discount? Does this sound familiar? Does this sound like you? READ on to learn about Disney Deals and Discounts.

Book EARLY:

As of recent, there sadly has been a trend that on deal/discount day, people who booked early (BEFORE ANY PRICE INCREASE) already had the better price. So if I had applied the deal that everyone was so desperate for, they would have been paying more. Its true!! So, in my opinion, the BEST deal you can count on is booking NOW, early…as soon as you are ready. Disney usually raises rates during the beginning of the year, but they can and do raise them anytime, often without warning. Therefor waiting for a discount is not the smartest move. So, if you want to save on a Disney Vacation, book NOW before prices go up. This just might be the ONLY way you will secure a lower price.

Deal Day:

SO you are booked and Disney just released a Deal – YAY!! OR is it?? Often they have a big chuck of available dates, like Jan-April. Then they will list all but like 3-5 resorts. So you are thinking, YAY, this is me. I am booked within the dates and at an included resort, I am so gonna save. NOT the case. Deals and Discounts are essentially for resorts and dates that need help booking. And, of course, the TV commercials, Facebook ads, etc don’t exactly tell you that or that there is a limited amount of availability. They also don’t boldly advertise that the deal could only be for Theme Park View or Club Level at certain resorts. And they for sure don’t tell you that there is like only 1 room at your resort, for a mystery set of dates that was actually discounted. BUT it’s not all bad, some resorts seem to always score a deal and I often suggest those when people have a limited budget. Just NOTE: It might not happen for you, especially if staying at the most popular resort so BOOK EARLY to save.

Deal Day OFFER!!
Resorts:

Some resorts are just larger with more rooms, are less popular or happen to have more variety of room categories and tend to score a deal more than others. Some are because you couldn’t pay me to stay there and some, its just the higher room category. I can think of one resort (in particular) that if its lands on a deal, you can save hundreds on one of the most popular rooms/views on property. This is a TOTAL score BUT you have to be willing to pay more to upgrade (which is also common). So deal doesn’t always mean less or cheaper. Sometimes it does. I often safe people $200-300 PER room, but like I said, its tends to happen at the same few resorts. So, if I have clients determined to score a deal, these are things I mention and help with.

The Skinny:

So the take away is this…Book what you want, what you can/want to afford. And Book EARLY. Book dates that work for you. Don’t count on a deal to make your vacation magical. But understand that if a deal does come out, I am up at 4am that morning trying to score it for you. I want to get that deal for you before they are gone. But also know that you might have to upgrade for a deal. You might have to add Park Hoppers or add 1 more park day. Are you willing to do this? These are things I ask, so on that fateful morning…I am ready to be the Most Magical Travel Agent EVER. I want to be that hero, I want to save you money. Booking with me can save you money, not just because I scored you a deal, but because I know my stuff. And I saved you time by doing all the work BUT I also prevented you from spending funds where they didn’t need to be spent.
