Should I PACK my Camera for Disney, for vacation?

Headed to Disney? Wondering if you need to bring your REAL camera, Memory Maker? READ this and see…

Hey guys, thought I would answer a common question I get. Cameras, to bring or not to bring, that is the question?? Sadly this isn’t an easy answer and 100% dependent on your type of vacation and the type of pictures you want. It also matters if you are getting the Memory Maker (Disney World) or another Disney picture package. Should I pack my Camera for Disney?

YES:

So, yes, PACK your camera if you are a photographer. 100%!! People who are actually trained, do for a living photographers will not be happy or content without their vices, aka camera. This is where I fall as well, not only do I have professional camera training but per my job…I take THOUSANDS of images and video on vacation, its a MUST to pack. In fact, crazy me packs 2-4 cameras with backup batteries. I have special lenses, a camera backpack and a few tri-pods. Only a “crazy” person needs to bring this, and by crazy I mean devoted 😉

NO:

For those who are staying for a few days, who have the Memory Maker package AND for those who are happy with cell phone images, you can leave your camera at home. Cameras are bulky, add another item to carry and can be annoying to remember to charge. Even a smaller Point & Shoot can be a pain. I mean you have your phone in hand, use that. Need to quickly capture some Magic…you need to have that camera at the ready (as I do). For those just wanting to enjoy, your cell is fine.

Maybe:

So the maybe is for the in-between people. Perhaps you love your camera, take it everywhere and plan on capturing images that the Disney photographers can’t. Or for whatever reason need a camera. I urge people to remember the heat and how heavy a camera can feel after a few hours. So for those who want to take GOOD images, I usually suggest a nice “Point & Shoot” verses bringing the DSLR (the Big Boy as I call them). I think in “normal” situations they aren’t needed and just become another thing to protect against the rain, heat and water rides.

So as I am the worst person to ask, this is my advice. Do as I suggest, not as I do. I am rarely without a camera. Different ones are used for different reasons and when one has died, I move the next one. I use my cell on water rides as its waterproof and pack special bags for the others. Its alot going on. My kids and husband even joke when we are in the park and see something I didn’t photograph as they still think I am silly for taking a picture of garbage cans, lol. “Mom, did you see that vent or sewer cover?” They think they are SO funny.

“Incredible” Garage Cans!!

Anyways, I hope this helped. Cameras are great but add an extra layer of packing and something to remember. If you can, go light and get the Memory Maker. Mahalo for READING and FOLLOWING along – Nina

My FAVORITE 5 Snacks to pack for Vacation – Disney

Headed on Vacation? Worried about cranky kids, hungry picky kids or have Food Allergies? READ my TOP snacks to pack for Vacation, especially Disney.

Hey guys, after yesterdays post, I thought I would continue some packing TIPS. I love snacks, kids love snacks and even though Disney is FILLED and FILLED to the top with snacks…its not always the type of snacks I want to eat 24/7. Sometimes I want something healthier. Or something for a quick breakfast on the go. So whether you have Food Allergies or not, or on the Meal Plan (which I LOVE) packing some park snacks CAN save the day.

Cereal:

OK – you heard me. I 100% pack DRY Cereal. Its great for breakfast, a simple snack, finger foods for tots and it can be on the healthy side. Its dry, lasts forever and doesn’t melt. Cheers for Cereal!! Place in a baggie and you are good-to-go.

SUGAR – YUM – Erin McKenna’s WDW
Protein Shakes:

Since I work with hundreds of families every year, one common concern I find is parents worried about protein for the kids. My kids just eat junk, all they want is pizza, pasta and more starch. How about packing protein shakes to have in the morning with your dry cereal? I actually do this for myself, along with green juice. With all the yummy, surgery goodness that Disney can offer, why not fight it with healthy, vitamin filled protein shakes? Mine has 16 grams of protein; vegan, allergen friendly protein.

Green Juice 🙂
Healthy Bars:

This goes with the above thought…protein bars to combat the sugar. It’s also an easy item to toss in your park bag; pack a whole box in your suitcase and you are ready. Just be-careful about chocolate flavored bars…nothing’s worse then trying to eat a melted granola bar that gets everywhere and sticks to your fingers. I aim for high fiber and lower sugar.

Breakfast Bar – filled with Protein
Go-Go Fruit Pouches:

This is the perfect idea for littles. And its great for parents that worry about kids digestive systems, you know what I am talking about. Toss a few of these in your park bags to keep the kids regular and hydrated in the heat. They even make veggie ones and again I stick to low sugar, high fiber ones.

Chocolate:

OK – yep I said chocolate. I even said this after saying NO chocolate granola bars. This treat is more for the allergy kids. Disney, at one time, had an arrangement with Enjoy Life and sold SAFE chocolate bars on property. I am sad to say that I can’t find them anywhere, so I am back to packing them. When kids are offered just fruit for dessert, pop one of these out and enjoy. I am also known for sneaking 1-2 myself, mamma needs her chocolate too 😉

5 Things to REMEMBER to Pack for Vacation

Planning a Vacation? Worried you might forget something? READ and LEARN my list of things to pack for a Disney Vacation.

Hey FANS, as I have another trip planned soon, I thought I would post on a few items I (we) have forgotten and wish we didn’t. Has this happened to you? Worried you might forget something important? How about something that will COST you even more while on vacation? Or an item you can’t even purchase on location, thus putting a damper on the trip. My list of items to NOT FORGET to pack for a Disney Vacation.

Sunscreen:

So if you are off to a sunny location, sunscreen is a common packing item. Some even keep it in their toiletry kits so no matter what, its packed (little TIP). BUT if you forget this item, you might be in shock to see the price of sunscreen at your destination (upwards of $20+). Not to mention, the brands. If you wear a certain brand, have allergies or sensitivities…you might not find your brand at the quick n’ go stand. PACK now and don’t be sorry later.

Sunglasses

Another no-brainer – or is it?? I find sunglasses are a common item to forget. I keep mine in my car, if I am headed to the airport when its dark out (Hello, 6 am), then I am not wearing them. As I hop out of the car super fast to catch the airport shuttle…guess where my glasses are left?? (eek). I now keep a pair in my travel bag (at all times). You might find cheap glasses on vacation to purchase, but even those are $$ and I personally prefer my special sunglasses that I searched high and low for.

GUM:

If you are a gum chewer, PACK THIS NOW. There is NO Gum on Disney property, they 100% don’t sell it. But please, trash is properly as this is why Disney doesn’t sell this sticky, found on the bottom of guests shoes, item. Same with mints/candies…pack your favorite brands as Disney might only sell more bulk candy items.

Bathing Suit:

OK – so I never forgot a suit, but I did manage to pack one that was the wrong size. My sons suit was in our bathing suit bag, so I didn’t even think about it. Got on our cruise and it was 2 sizes too small. So while stuck at sea and having lots of beach time ahead…I had to purchase a suit on board. $50 later we had a NEW suit that was too big and didn’t exactly save me any money either. Next time – try them on before you pack.

Super Cute Disney Cruise Line Bathing Suit, but costly.
Underwear/Shorts:

Ok – so now you are wondering…who forgets to pack the single most important item over medicine – undies. Well it happens and sorry to say, hard to replace on property. Kids undies maybe (find some cute Minnie or Cars undies) but Adult undies – good luck. Grab an Uber and hop to Walmart. Shorts – now this happened to us, the husband wore pants on the plane and forgot to pack shorts for Spring Break, 85+ degree temps. So as frustrated as I was, I had to jump into action because a hot, cranky husband on vacation is NOT a pretty site. Thank goodness for Disney Springs, but it cost us $$$ for brand name shorts on vacation.

So – do you have a list? What have you forgotten? We now joke about the shorts issue, we keep sunscreen and gum in the suitcase at all times and I purchased an extra pair of sunglasses that I keep in my travel bag.
