Mickeys Very MERRY Christmas Party – Disney World

Thinking about visiting Disney World over the Holidays? Wondering if the Christmas Party is right for you? READ on…

Hey fans, as I know its TOO early to talk Christmas, in Disney terms…its not. Welcome to Christmas in July where we discuss the Holidays 6 months early. I am, of course, referring to the Holiday Party – Mickeys Very MERRY Christmas Party. It happens every Nov/Dec and is the BEST way to bring on your Christmas Spirit or is it?

Mickey’s Very MERRY Christmas Party
IS it RIGHT for me:

Deciding to do or not to do the Holiday party, either Holiday Party, is a common question and its usually something I discuss on a case by case basis. Families with young kids, people who sleep early, people who have an already active trip might want to think carefully about this. People who love late nights, who have a few extra $$…this is definitely a good option.

What IS the Party:

In basic terms, the party is ringing in the Holiday season with Disney cheer. Parades, Fireworks, Holiday dressed Characters, Holiday music and Dance Parties, Holiday treats, Hot Chocolate and Rides. Don’t forget that the rides are also open. AND…if in the right spot, it will snow on Main Street as Santa joins the parade towards the finale. Nothing beats snow in the Magic Kingdom 🙂 WATCH the PARADE live…

The Skinny:

The party usually starts at 7pm and runs until Midnight or so. General guests get kicked out (ok escorted out) at 6pm, which gives Party people 1 hour to roam the parks with only other party guests. Each party guest is given a special wristband and you are welcomed by Holiday clad Cast Members with Cookies and Treats. Lots of photo opportunities with backdrops, characters and decor. NOTE: Think your Holiday Card. Many comes dressed to celebrate; some in matching outfits, some in Holiday PJs and some with festive sweaters and Mouse Ears. Its a LONG, LATE Magical Night.

Is it Worth the Price:

So its no secret, this party is $$$, easily about $100+ per person. But the answer is YES, YES its worth the cost. But its only worth it, if you will enjoy it. If you aren’t dragging tired kids along. If you aren’t being a Grinch yourself due to the long park day you have already encountered. I mention the negative side as I have seen some things, let me tell you. Not everyone is in the Christmas Spirit and that goes for the kids and some adults. BUT if you are looking for a way to ring in the Holidays, LOVE parades and Disney Characters…then this could be the party for you.

Like I said, I help my clients with this, and other concerns/questions on a case by case basis. Only you can determine if this is the right fit for your family and your pocketbook. It was YEARS before I took my own kids as I wanted them to get the FULL enjoyment out of the party. But once my daughter saw it, she made it to about 10:30 and LOVED it. She always asks to do it again.

Hope this helped. Mahalo for READING and FOLLOWING along – Nina

Top RIDES at Disney World & Disneyland

Visiting Disney can be overwhelming. Figuring out which rides to experience can be challenging. READ about my favorite rides at Disney World & Disneyland

Hey fans, I am planning on doing several helpful lists of my top rides, resort, restaurants, etc…but thought I would start with this. My TOP favorite rides in each USA Disney Theme Park. Walt Disney World AND Disneyland Resort. These are my favorite rides, for no specific reason, just the rides I love and will continue to ride over and over again. I would love to hear your list – make sure to comment.

Almost made the cut – Jungle Cruise
Magic Kingdom – Disney World:

This park is probably the hardest out of any park as there are SO many options. But for me, I am gonna say Pirates of the Caribbean. I would love to say the Pirates BEFORE they changed it, but even with the recent changes…it’s still a favorite and something I ride EVERY trip. In fact when I visited WDW pregnant, my Dr told me no pirates and well…she wasn’t on my happy list during that trip 😉 I love the song, the familiarity from childhood. And the silly, singing pirates with dirty feet and sleeping with the pigs. “We wants the Redhead.”

Epcot – Disney World:

AS this was also a hard one, it ended up being a no-brainier. One ride that I hate to miss and will fastpasses or RUN to directly after rope drop is Soarin’ Around the World. I have been SO many times, you think I would be tired of it – nope. Its just so different from other attractions. I love the smells, the sights and the feeling like you are flying, even though it can make me a little nauseous (just close your eyes).

Animal Kingdom – Disney World:

This was an easy one – Kilimanjaro Safari. Sorry Pandora fans, nothing will beat the ability to see animals roam “freely” and enjoy life eating grass and grazing. Nothing with beat watching a baby hippo splash in the pond with her mom or seeing a lion rest on pride rock. Even being a vegan, I love this ride. It feels like the animals are happy and well cared for. I love that each time it’s a different experience, morning, noon or evening.

Hollywood Studios – Disney World:

This selection might be short lived once Galaxy’s Edge opens, but for now its Toy Story Mania. This could be due to my son who makes us ride this over and over again, especially at Disneyland where we can. But its a fave. My choice would have been the Backlot Tour and it might become Rise of the Resistance, but for now…Toy Story has my heart.

Disneyland Park:

100% Dumbo!! Its been my favorite since I was a kid and since my Disney life started in California, that’s where my heart is. It’s an original attraction that made little Nina very, very happy. Even today I tear up when on the Disneyland version. It goes oddly fast for a Flying Elephant and has the most beautiful view of Fantasyland, especially at night when the lights are on.

California Adventure: Disneyland

For this park, my favorite is an attraction or an experience – I love the Animation Academy. For those that don’t know this hidden gem, its a drawing class in the park. A Disney animator teaches you how to draw a certain character using only a pencil. NO erasers. The artist in me LOVES this. I love the concept, the actual experience so much. Think about it, with a place so filled with animated characters, shows and rides…why not learn how it all started…by drawing a mouse?!?!

Learn HOW to Draw GOOFY!!

Remember this is MY personal favorite list. These aren’t necessarily the rides to RUN to or to fastpass, but they are the attractions I won’t miss. I come from a place of childhood memories, growing up in the park. This is what drives my list, drives me. I love the original attractions that Walt helped create. The attractions that draw me closer and closer for whatever emotional reason. This is what makes Disney Parks so great, so many options. So, whats your list?

Charging up at Disney World…

A while back Disney tested charging locker/stations and random “hidden” outlets.  As this was a minor hit…it was clear that guests wanted to charge while being on the move.  I mean, how many people can sit for an hour with crazy, excited kids – not me.  OR want to go back to that said locker and claim a “charged” phone/device…again NOT me.  WE like to keep it moving at Disney, plus most people need phones for emergencies, taking pictures and well…facebook posts.

So…in response to that need…Disney got in bed with a company called “Fuel Rod”.  And lets just say…I am in LOVE.  What is Fuel Rod exactly?  Let me tell you ALL about it.

dsc_0617

A Fuel Rod is a portable (external) battery, about the size of a lipstick.  It’s basically the same kind you can buy at any store…it charges your phone or device.  So why is this “fuel rod” so great?  Well…Disney has set up “vending machine” stations throughout the parks.  You purchase this battery ONCE for $30, then as you need a charge you “turn-in” your USED one and get a NEW charged one in its place. Cool right?!?!?

But that’s not all – you can do this, Over and Over and Over again (UNLIMITED).  The whole family can use it.  Once the charge is gone, get a new one.  Pass it around the group and top everyone off.  ALL for only $30.  And you can use your credit card to purchase, I got an email instantly with the receipt.

The first time you purchase one, it does come with a few adaptable charging connection pieces, to fit most phones/devices.  OR if worried bring your own cord, it does have a USB port for connecting to your device.  And it comes in a simple clear case to keep everything together.

So why do you need this or should consider it???  I was just at Disney with 6 adults…between us all, phones were dying fast, battery power was flying out of the park and we all needed some juice.  Most of us packed our own back-up batteries but those too ran out quick…so again…unless I wanted to sit for 1 hour and charge up…the Fuel Rod was the perfect solution.  And thanks to Disney’s crazy Wi-Fi (on, off, on, off)…we needed a charge several times in ONE day.  Many times my phone was at 30% and the Fuel Rod charged it to about 80-90% – of course this was while I was also using it; posting, filming, taking pictures – all while I was “charging”.  Since I was the only one who purchased a Fuel Rod, it was getting passed around like crazy.  It became a game to see who had it next.

So for those with older kids, those with multiple devices, those who are posters (you know who you are)…this might be the solution for you too.  Again, even though I packed my own back-up…the ability to use, exchange, use, exchange, use, exchange…several times through-out the day/trip…that was a life-saver.  It’s yours to keep, so bring it back next time at Disney, use it at home and charge yourself.

TIP:  If this sounds like something you will want/need…you can purchase it for $20 directly from Fuel-Rod (online) and then bring to the parks.  Also…since I got back (5 days ago) I heard rumors that even some resorts are getting a Fuel Rod machine…which would rock.  I remember telling people, if only they had these at the resorts…well apparently…that is coming as we speak – YAY!!!  I did screen-shot the current locations of the machines (see above) and used that to help guide me to the next…we exchanged every chance we could and we were NOT alone, this is growing in popularity.

MermaidNina:  I am a Disney Vacation Planner (aka Travel Agent) and I book and plan Disney/Universal vacations as a living…yep it’s my FULL TIME job.  And when not quoting, planning, booking dining, helping with fastpasses, getting travel documents together…I am at Disney…doing something Disney.  My services are 100% FREE as Disney pays me to do this…so contact me if looking to explore Disney.  Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise, etc.  As I am not the best blogger (I know), I AM amazing at my job which of course prevents me from being an awesome blogger, lol.  I am a mom, a wife, a kid at heart and well…I am a Mermaid (with legs of course).
