Sweet Treats & Mickey Dessert – Disney Cruise

Thinking about a Disney Cruise? Wondering if you can get Mickey shaped Desserts? READ this review…

Hi guys, Its hot out and I am remembering the yummy ice cream sundae I enjoyed on my recent Disney Cruise. I know many people LOVE the fun desserts they have in the parks and wonder if the cruises do too. Well I am here to report, they do!! 2 of the 4 ships actually have Disney themed sweet shops on board to fill that Mickey shaped void. READ this Dessert Review.

Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats
Disney Dream:

My most recent cruise adventure was on the Disney Dream. The Dream is a fabulous ship with a hidden sweet shop, Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats. Yep, as in Wreck it Ralph. This cute little gem is all decked out with King Candy, Vanellope’s Go Cart and lots and lots of sugar filled goodness. Ice Cream, Ice cream concoctions, Mickey shaped cupcakes, cookies, oh my and other sweet treats. A life sized candy Go Cart is in the shop for your perfect Instagram pics. And I must add, I found the sweetest Cast Member working behind the counter.

Disney Fantasy:

I cruised on the Fantasy just a few months back and found a very similar Sweet Shop on board – Sweet On You. This very cute confectionery is decorated with Minnie and Mickey. A sculpture (if you will) of Minnie and Mickey sharing an ice cream treat while seated in old fashioned patio furniture is featured in the shop. The treats sold are very similar, if not the same as the Disney Dream. Several pre-packaged options were also in the shops, like they do in the parks. The dark chocolate covered pretzels are a fave. Now if only they can sell the Soft Mickey Pretzels, yum!!

The Skinny:

The shops described above are extra, meaning the cost is not included in the cruise fare. But this didn’t stop me, nor did it stop all the other cruise guests. Every time I walked past these shops, business was hopping. Guests just can’t get enough of their favorite sweet Mickey shaped goodness. Of course for those that are watching your pennies you can always get the unlimited Dairy FULL soft serve as well as order Mickey Premium Ice Cream bar from Room Service.

Food Allergies/Vegan:

If you are allergic to dairy and/or are vegan…both of the shops had options for us. I was able to score yummy Chocolate Ice Cream on BOTH ships and the Dream had a few extra flavors I didn’t remember the Fantasy having. So I was able to score a frozen vegan treat like all the other guests. And, although not guaranteed, I was able to get SAFE vegan ice cream with a clean spoon and scoops from a safe container. The Cast Member did give me the usual CC warnings, so be cautious and ask questions.

The other ships:

The Disney Magic and Wonder do NOT currently have these yummy additions to the ships but don’t you worry. The buffets are FILLED with sweet treats and so are the dinner menus. They also sell Dole Whips on board now, so that’s a HUGE plus. If you have food allergies, I help my clients with this so you too can have yummy treats. I have enjoyed many cookies, brownies and most recently a strawberry shortcake with my allergies.

I hope this helped you either get excited about your up-coming cruise or perhaps makes you want to book one, which I can help with. Mahalo for READING and FOLLOWING along – Nina

My FAVORITE 5 Snacks to pack for Vacation – Disney

Headed on Vacation? Worried about cranky kids, hungry picky kids or have Food Allergies? READ my TOP snacks to pack for Vacation, especially Disney.

Hey guys, after yesterdays post, I thought I would continue some packing TIPS. I love snacks, kids love snacks and even though Disney is FILLED and FILLED to the top with snacks…its not always the type of snacks I want to eat 24/7. Sometimes I want something healthier. Or something for a quick breakfast on the go. So whether you have Food Allergies or not, or on the Meal Plan (which I LOVE) packing some park snacks CAN save the day.

Cereal:

OK – you heard me. I 100% pack DRY Cereal. Its great for breakfast, a simple snack, finger foods for tots and it can be on the healthy side. Its dry, lasts forever and doesn’t melt. Cheers for Cereal!! Place in a baggie and you are good-to-go.

Protein Shakes:

Since I work with hundreds of families every year, one common concern I find is parents worried about protein for the kids. My kids just eat junk, all they want is pizza, pasta and more starch. How about packing protein shakes to have in the morning with your dry cereal? I actually do this for myself, along with green juice. With all the yummy, surgery goodness that Disney can offer, why not fight it with healthy, vitamin filled protein shakes? Mine has 16 grams of protein; vegan, allergen friendly protein.

Green Juice 🙂
Healthy Bars:

This goes with the above thought…protein bars to combat the sugar. It’s also an easy item to toss in your park bag; pack a whole box in your suitcase and you are ready. Just be-careful about chocolate flavored bars…nothing’s worse then trying to eat a melted granola bar that gets everywhere and sticks to your fingers. I aim for high fiber and lower sugar.

Breakfast Bar – filled with Protein
Go-Go Fruit Pouches:

This is the perfect idea for littles. And its great for parents that worry about kids digestive systems, you know what I am talking about. Toss a few of these in your park bags to keep the kids regular and hydrated in the heat. They even make veggie ones and again I stick to low sugar, high fiber ones.

Chocolate:

OK – yep I said chocolate. I even said this after saying NO chocolate granola bars. This treat is more for the allergy kids. Disney, at one time, had an arrangement with Enjoy Life and sold SAFE chocolate bars on property. I am sad to say that I can’t find them anywhere, so I am back to packing them. When kids are offered just fruit for dessert, pop one of these out and enjoy. I am also known for sneaking 1-2 myself, mamma needs her chocolate too 😉

How to have FUN at Disney

Wondering how to have FUN at Disney – READ and Learn these basic Planning Tips.

Hey guys, thought I would touch base on a topic that seems easy enough, but really takes some thought. Having FUN at Disney is something everyone can achieve, but oddly…some have a hard time. You’re probably thinking, HELLO, just enjoy yourself, ride the rides, eat the treats and meet Mickey…is there really is more to it than that. This is something I coach my clients on when they ask as who wants to ruin a fabulous trip with the wrong mind-set.

Being Silly outside of Dinosaur. Take time to explore and be a kid!

Planning:

It all starts in the planning. Choosing the RIGHT resort for you is HUGE. Its not just about the beds and where everyone is sleeping (although that is important)…it can be about types of pools, atmosphere, LOCATION and to me, most important…EASE of getting to the parks. Some people are raising human fish and really need that top end pool. Some people are bring 3 kids under the age of 8, thus location and types of transportation are KEY.

Following the Steps:

Most Disney Vacations, Walt Disney World especially, have set dates to accomplish a task. It surprises me when I have clients still tell me, they want to wing it. That’s really opening your trip to disaster, unless you are a Disney Parks pro and go often and aren’t trying to cram weeks worth of entertainment into 3-5 park days…you might be ok. But for those that are saving and saving and have once chance at doing this right…you 100% want fastpasses and 100% want to book your dining on time. Which, of course, makes staying on property KEY as they get first dibs.

Fastpasses:

Now carefully choosing your fastpasses can 100% matter. Especially if you are going at a High Crowd time, have young kids or are trying to master the skill of doing all the coasters on the same day with little line waits. Deciding the times to do these passes and making sure you SCORE the best ones are KEY and can be a HUGE part of your trip success. Think about it, who wants to be a human ping pong ball and go from here to there and back and forth when they could carefully plan it all out.

Go with the Flow:

Ok – so now I lost you right…how can you plan and schedule yet, go with the flow. Well I am here to tell you, you can. You want to plan it ALL out as carefully as you can, but be open to change. What if your kids love a ride and want to ride it over and over again. Or you forget to plan to see the parade and find yourself wanting to watch it? And the most common, those angels you planned all of this for, decided to act like kids and get tired and cranky…thus you missed the fireworks.

Basically you want to learn as much as you can, be educated, seek out an expert for assistance and plan it the best you can. But also remember your kids, they love to throw in kinks to parents plans and be prepared for that. I pack snacks, extra batteries, download new games on my phone, etc to keep those little ones happy and content. I also don’t sweat the small stuff, missing 1 ride or a certain Character Meal isn’t going to ruin your trip. But having a “hard to please” attitude will. Be open for magic, but don’t expect it. Take time out for pictures and slow down to see the Disney details. Be excited for your kids, but don’t expect them to change. And please, oh please…enjoy yourself. Eat that treat, ride that ride you were looking forward too and remember at Disney…we are all kids at heart.
